The villagers in Slitting Mill were looking for an event to replace Village Day which had taken place for over 20 years. They found it in the Mad Hatter's Tea Party!
The church of St. John the Baptist was decorated with many hats and tea cup arrangements. Pride of place at the front of the church were Alice and the Mad Hatter, sitting at their table, with the dormouse asleep in his teapot.
Outside the church was a very well stocked book stall, and lots of bric-a-brac.
The weather was kind to start with, and the sun was shining, but gradually the clouds came over and the rain started. But no matter, we were all in church drinking tea and eating the delicious cakes on offer.
The raffle was drawn at the end of the afternoon (and a huge thank you to everyone who bought and sold tickets), with a £50 first prize and many other prizes. There was also a beautiful cake to guess the weight of (the winner will be announced at the Barn Dance on Friday 13th).
Thank you to all who contributed to making this event a success!
